This wine is deep ruby color with blackberry, boysenberry, acai, burnt raw sugar and toasty oak, dried basil, cardamom, black pepper and anise notes on the nose. On the palate, with silky, smooth, well integrated mouthfeel texture with concentrated black fruit, and lingering length with sweet spice finish.
The 2010 Zinfandel grape is sourced from Quarry Vineyards; the primary Zinfandel block is between 300 and 400 feet elevation in the eastern foothills of Rutherford. Planted in 1981, the volcanic “Tufa” soil in combination with the “Werle” family clone selection and St. George rootstock produces intense flavored clusters with concentrated small yields.
The harvest time is between 4 -10 October 2010, followed by cold soak 192 hours and hand punch down, small open top fermenters, then aged 19 months in French oak with 25% new.
